What to do in Nelspruit : Activities

The world famous Sudwala Caves; the popular Lowveld Botanical Gardens; Chimpanzee Eden, a haven of the Jane Goodall Institute; the Croc River Enviro Park's residents are mainly reptiles and other animals, including domestic animals in a petting park; the eccentric village of Kaapsehoop and its' wild horses are all within an easy drive from the New Frontier Backpackers Lodge.

4x4 Routes
Hire a 4x4 in Nelspruit and tackle the many 4x4 trails of the region.

Chimpanzee Eden
The entrance gate to Chimpanzee Eden is only 7 km from the New Frontier Backpackers Lodge. This JGI Primate Haven is a home to chimpanzees that have been misplaced from their natural habitat.

Lowveld Botanical Garden
The 159 ha Lowveld Botanical Garden is one of Mpumalanga's most popular tourist attractions. In addition to approximately 600 plant species occurring naturally in the Garden, more than 2000 additional species have been planted.

Croc River Enviro Park
It is the largest reptile park in South Africa with a large variety of indigenous and exotic species. The park also houses a touch farm, picnic spots next to the river, kiddies' play area, nursery and coffee shop.

Sudwala Caves & Sudwala Dinosaur Park

Located next to the Sudwala Caves, the Sudwala Dinosaur Park is home to cientifically accurate, life sized models of prehistoric animals are on display.
